TV: What do you hope people will experience/feel when they enter the lobby and see the stands that you have created?ĭL: The lobby sets the scene for the musical. Wonka himself - including Chocolate Caramel Popcorn, Cake Batter Crunch Popcorn, Cotton Candy Bucket, Vanilla Cupcake with Sprinkles Chocolate Bar, and much more. Every item was hand selected for an ultimate curation worthy of Mr. TV: When curating this collection for the theater/show, how did you possibly choose the items that would be available at the stands?ĭL: We curated a collection of Dylan’s Candy Bar items to be a combination of the expected and unexpected. The magic extends beyond the stage to the lobby, to the concession stands and beyond, offering a fully immersive experience for the theatergoer. We took a cue from the play by incorporating the grandiose aesthetic and colorful elements of the set design, such as the gilded accents and rich purples. TV: The concession stands at the theater are unlike anything we have ever seen! What were you most inspired by when curating these?ĭL: The movie and the musical are visually stunning, and I wanted the concession stands to reflect the extraordinary set and costume design that transports audience members to another world. One of my all-time favorite movie moments! TV: Is there a scene from the show/movie that inspired you the most?ĭL: I love the part when Willy Wonka opens his gates to the winners to introduce them to his Candy Land-like estate filled with a forest of gummy bear trees, candy cane trees, lollipop bushes, cream-filled mushrooms, a chocolate river, and "Pure Imagination" plays in the background. ![]() Teen Vogue sat down with the founder and CEO of Dylan’s Candy Bar, Dylan Lauren, to get a behind-the-scenes take on her inspiration for the design of the innovative candy stands, her involvement with the Broadway production, and how she curated the collection of candy perfect for any theatergoer who wants to be a part of Willy Wonka’s world. These magical candy stands were designed and created for the show by none other than Dylan’s Candy Bar. Lining the lobby of the theater are over-the-top, whimsical, and delectable Candy Stands ripped straight out of the pages of the Roald Dahl classic. Upon first steps into the Lunt-Fontanne Theater, audience members get transported into the world of Willy Wonka where they are greeted by the smells of sweets, outrageous colors, and most importantly… CANDY. ![]() Theater fans are lining the streets to be a part of what is proving to be smash hit. The story of Charlie is staple amongst families across generations and this Broadway iteration is no exception. The imaginative world of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory has hit the Great White Way in a hysterically funny, whimsical, and modern way.
